How to train gratitude on hard days

It's easy to feel grateful on a good day. The sun is out, work went well, someone was kind to you. That gratitude costs nothing.

The gratitude that actually changes someone is different: the kind you go looking for even on a bad day, when the list of reasons to complain is longer than the list of reasons to be thankful.

In the Quran, Allah promises that whoever is grateful will receive even more of His blessings. This works like a muscle: the more you practice noticing the small good, the easier it becomes to find it, even on hard days.

A simple way to start: at the end of every hard day, name three concrete things that went well, no matter how small. They don't need to outweigh the rest of the day. They just need to be true.

With practice, this habit changes the lens you see your own days through, even before it changes the days themselves.
